They say you shouldn't judge an album by its cover, but sometimes an album title tells you all you need to know about the band. In 40 Grit's case, this is just another prefabricated hard rock act that seemingly wishes to duplicate the mainstream attention that the likes of Linkin Park have gotten. 40 Grit's sound is tailored to entice young listeners to spend their earnings from afterschool jobs on their CD. The choruses are somewhat tough sounding, but catchy at the same time. The guitars are properly tuned to a heavy sound, but ultimately vacuous. The songs are interchangeable stabs at radio friendly fare that might as well be churned out by forty monkeys given a recording contract. Did I happen to mention this is the most forgettable CD that's been sent to me in ages? Why anyone would demean their ears with such uninspiring, unchallenging and obvious music is far beyond my understanding. Review by John Chedsey Review date: 07/2003 |
