Crunchy like a good breakfast cereal should be and as stirring as a mixing bowl, Am I Blood is sitting at the same table as Alice in Chains, Pantera and Metallica of old. Hailing from the wilds of Finland, AIB sounds little like other Finnish bands I've heard (Children of Bodom, Amorphis, Stone). Their presentation of modern metal (read: this could be commercial) is above average. Though singer Janne Kerminen washes his Hetfield-ish voice in various effects, his rough melody can be tasty and at the very least you'll remember the song after it's over. "Negative", "Day Will Be Executed", "The Final Scream" and "Eternal You" all are good examples of strong songwriting and memorable playing. Am I Blood could easily be a hit on American shores, finding niches in the aforementioned influence crowd. Review by John Chedsey Review date: 10/1998 |
