Essentially the one-man outlet of Portland-based musician Matthew Cooper, Eluvium's second release is, at first glance, nothing more than solo classical piano pieces in the vein of Erik Satie marketed to the indie-rock crowd, but damn it if it isn't totally gorgeous. Tragic in mood and tasteful in execution, An Accidental Memory In Case of Death conveys a very palpable sense of loss but with a certain degree of clarity and warmth. Despite its all-too-brief duration, An Accidental Memory is minimalism at its most fragile and pretty. Highly recommended for those lonesome times spent in a darkened room. Review by Alec A.
