Yesh...definitely Sonic Youth-ish, funk-ish, groovy-ish shtuff. Hotel Hypercube, the debut CD from this oddball group, has roots based in NY noise rock mixed with a bit of that booty-shaking groove. And admittedly singer/guitarist Paul Garvey has a Thurston Moore sort of voice that is plainative and almost a shadow of the music. Though brief, this EP gives me the distinct idea that I will want to hear more of this group down the line. Left field rock with swagger! Gotta go with it.
