There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that Canada's Does Everyone Stare? Records has a fine roster of bands. But what is with all these fucking silly 3-5 song/10-15 minutes CDs? I have a difficult time acclimating myself to a CD that ends in the time it takes me to urinate. High Lo Fi's Three Sided Single is a quickie of endearingly skillfull alternative rock; focused, tight, filled with memorable vocal lines, and recorded with a caustic edge giving the songs an impressive spark. I'm even tempted to say "post-punk" as the resemblance to early Jawbox is uncanny, but these guys are heavier on the pop tip. It is, in any event, pretty cool.
